New! Panoramic tower in Galmaarden

A new purpose for the church of Galmaarden
Eighteen years ago, a severe fire largely reduced the church of Galmaarden to ashes. What followed was a years-long process of restoration and repurposing. Today, the building serves a new function without concealing its eventful past.
During the restoration, a conscious decision was made not to completely erase the traces of the fire. Scars from the past remain visible in various places and have been integrated into the new design. They serve as a reminder of what the building has endured, while simultaneously allowing the church to embrace a new future.
This new future focuses on social interaction, culture, and tourism. The former church now houses facilities such as the Galmaarden library, a reading garden, a tourist information point, a small exhibition space, and a multi-purpose hall.
The panoramic tower also plays a key role in this new chapter. From the tower, visitors enjoy sweeping views of the Pajottenland region. The aim is to further develop the tower into a major tourist attraction, while also highlighting the region's iconic Brabant draft horses and the local museum.
